Romilda knew something was seriously wrong before she'd managed to reach consciousness. She couldn't even make it out of bed this morning, despite all her best efforts. But it was getting worse and worse. She was terrified now. Something wasn't right. She couldn't make it out of bed, but her body refused to even put up the effort to get up.
Every day she had tried to eat something, despite spending half her day in the bathroom, her head hung over the sink. At first she had reassured Rodolphus and the elves that it was normal, but after dinner the night before, she let her mind cross to something even more ghastly.
She had taken dinner with Rodolphus, and assured him that it would pass. She had tried to eat a few mouthfuls of everything on her plate, and was glad the food was bland and not too spicy. The pumpkin juice tasted somewhat funny, but then again, everything had tasted funny for days. She had gone to bed straight after dinner, hoping that sleep would come. It didn't, and she ended up moaning and groaning and whimpering as her body was wracked with pains. All night she had called out for Rodolphus, and also for Liam, but her cries must have fallen on deaf ears.
The sun was slipping through the crack in the curtains, when Romilda felt her sweat sodden pillow. She felt as if she was dying. There was no other way to describe the pains that wracked through her clammy body. She was under no illusion that this was any sort of morning sickness now, she moaned loudly at the light that came on as the curtains were opened. Letting out another moan, she called fruitlessly for Rodolphus, wondering if he would ever come.
Another shiver of pain made her cry out as she coughed violently, retching and coughing up blood. Black blood, the coppery tang unmistakeable in her mouth, as she was sure it got into the matted and sweaty strands of hair hanging limply against her head. Looking at the blood on the pillow, blackness began swimming at the corners of her eyes, and she lost consciousness - her last thoughts for Liam, and if she would ever see him again.
