Notice: A Warning To All Death Eaters
Date: 12 June 2005
Location: The outside wall of the Silver Serpent, Upper Slaughter
Private/Public: Public
Summary: Severus informs the Death Eaters about the consequences of certain actions. (This notice cannot be removed, changed, covered up or otherwise defaced and will last for three days.)

TO ALL DEATH EATERS

I am sure you all know that I have escaped
and I am sure you all have orders to locate me
and capture me, if not actually kill me.

Before you carry out those orders,
I will give you something to think about.

If I am captured or killed, I have arranged
for certain information to fall into the hands
of the leaders of the Order of the Phoenix and the Aurors.

This information includes the name of every Death Eater,
every werewolf, every vampire, everyone.
Also where you live outside of Upper Slaughter,
what you do, where you go, who you know
and what your role is among the Death Eaters.
Evidence has been provided in as many cases as possible.

Also given will be details of every mission I have known about,
every clandestine task, every person who has
asked me for potions or poisons and what effects
they have and who I believe they were used against.
Fundamentally, everything I know, they will know.

As long as I am free and alive, this information will stay with me.
If I am captured or killed, you all become fair game for every Auror and Order member.
Think about that before you carry out your orders.

Lucius read the notice in disbelief. Could the man truly be that selfish? Or did he just not fathom the repercussions, the consequences of his actions? Their way of life...how many pureblood families would be forced to pick up and leave? Leave England or leave for Upper Slaughter. How many children would not be able to attend Hogwarts? How many would be raised here, in Upper Slaughter, where they would learn nothing more than being a mindless soldier with no hope of ever becoming more than that? He wouldn't be surprised if Rodolphus sent Snape a letter of thanks once he realised how many new recruits it would bring him, how much more loyal his Death Eaters would become with no where else to turn.

Did Snape really think so little of them that he was prepared to give Rodolphus such a weapon? Because he must know that to people like Natasha or Cartier or Flemton, who already had nothing to lose, this would mean absolutely nothing. They would not stop hunting Snape - and when, because it was a matter of when - they caught him, all hell would break lose.

Lucius could feel his throat restricting in anger and fear. Draco would most likely not be on that list. Which was worse than if he had been on it. Not being mentioned would mean a death sentence when Rodolphus and Bellatrix found out, which they would, and with soldiers with nothing to lose on their hands, Draco would be dead before long. Draco and Narcissa and the manor - all would be gone because Snape was selfish and thought he could protect himself. Even little Violet would be at risk if they decided to stage a full attack on the manor.

What a fine way to repay a service, indeed.

He was still tired, he hadn't wanted to come back to Upper Slaughter- but Verity had gone, he assumed to the O'Shea manor, and hadn't been in contact. He had no idea why, and it was making him cranky. That and the fact that his bed here was completely uncomfortable, he was already missing the house in Kent, planning on returning there instead of here after the Indian wedding.

First, he wanted a drink, walking to the pub, he nearly missed the parchment on the wall. But something about it caught his eye and he started at it. Then stared at it, and stared at it some more, his face getting angrier and angrier by the moment.

How fucking dare Snape pull that kind of shit! What had happened to the Slytherin loyalty he had so painstakingly burned into all of them, the 'take care of one another because no one else will' attitude?! Apparently it only went so far as to himself in this case.

If for any reason Snape was caught, his name, his face, would be out for the world to see. And his father. He snorted, his father would easily deny anything. That he had joined on his own, and if they found the money trail, then that he was stealing from him...all the more reason for Don to come off scot-free while he, his son, rotted in Azkaban or wherever the hell it was they put people these days.

The worst was, he knew someone would get over-eager, some little pawn going out to capture him somehow- he only hoped Snape had a damn good hiding place.

In fact, if he didn't, if he got caught- well, he was screwed anyway, he'd gladly do the honors to kill the bastard. He was stuck aligned with Rodolpus if his name got out, and that was that. Nevermind what it would do to Verity.

His blood ran cold at the thought. She hadn't done anything, she'd be blamed too...He couldn't let that happen. If it did, well, she'd have to go with Don- no, she'd never agree to that. Holding back a growl he put his head down for a moment before shooting another glare at the notice. God, he needed a drink more than ever, however, the Silver Serpent had lost it's appeal.

Rodolphus strode down the path towards the Silver Serpent, his limp barely noticable. There had been all sorts of hysterical message coming from all directions about Severus and a notice and Rodolphus had decided that it was probably better to see this for himself. The Death Eaters crowded around the notice saw him coming and abruptly faded away, all of them with looks on their faces that seemed to indicate that they didn't want to be there to see his reaction.

He read through the notice, his expression cool and collected, then he read through again and finally for a third time. He was silent as he thought for a moment then he tipped his head back and laughed uproariously.

No doubt many of those here were indignant and angry about this but Rodolphus couldn't help but feel a little respect. Severus always had been a fine Slytherin. Loyal to his own except when his own skin was in danger then, like every good serpent, he protected himself. And did his best to spread chaos and discord amongst his enemies.

Rodolphus stared at the notice with open amusement. Severus had made a fine move in the chess game but it would not stop him. Those of his Death Eaters who had legitimate roles in the wizarding world had better be smart enough to cover their tracks enough that an Auror investigation would be nothing more than a minor inconvenience and if not, this had better motivate them to do so.

He made a mental note to try and determine where Severus might be hiding this information and whether it would be possible to get his hands on it. He then turned and faced the villiage in general. He had no doubts that there were Death Eaters hiding and watching him, wanting to see his reaction but not wanting to be in range if he decided to get angry.

"This changes nothing," he announced implacably. "Severus is still to be captured and brought to me alive. Our plans will still go on. The wizarding world will be ours. If this makes you lose faith in me, in my brother and in my wife then you are a poor excuse for a Death Eater. The Aurors are weak and next to useless. The Order is powerless and impotent. What makes you think that either group will believe the word of a known murderer? The murderer of Albus Dumbledore, so-called scion of the Light, no less. It is a bold bluff but a bluff nonetheless."

With that Rodolphus started walking back up to the Manor. He knew his words would get around the village in next to no time and when he got back he would have his people start watching and listening. Anyone thinking of... misbehaving would be dealt with.

After hearing about all the commotion and talking with his brother, Rabastan walked to the Silver Serpent to see this 'message' for himself. He was amused to see a few stragglers standing around, but he growled and they scattered as he stopped and read the message.

He studied the message for a long moment, his face expressionless. Then a smile slowly spread across his face as he shook his head. "Very Slytherin to cover your arse, Snape. But your little ploy will not work as you intend," he said to himself. He took one last look before heading back to the Manor, his mind already working on ways to turn this to his advantage.
