Terry and Sophia had had a long, but pleasing, day, following what had been a wonderful Friday afternoon, picnicking with Ben in the Room of Requirement. Today, though, Terry had left Ben with Oliver, and taken Sophia on a surprise shopping trip, finally using the five random items he'd given her at her birthday dinner. They'd been to all the major shopping capitals: London, Paris, Rome, Prague (where he wouldn't mind returning to sometime with Severus) and New York. Terry had thought ahead and created Portkeys (secretly) and surprised Sophia with the trip that morning. They'd toured both Muggle and Wizarding sections, spending most of the their time in the Muggle areas of the places they'd visited.
Terry had especially loved New York, and wished they'd been able to spend more than a few hours there. He'd made Sophia promise that they could bring Ben back closer to Christmas, so he could see the tree in Rockefeller Center that the nice clerk at a particularly cozy used book shop had been kind enough to inform the British tourists about. He also wanted to bring Ben to Paris, to see the Eifle Tower at night, and to Prague to see the Astronomical Clock. He'd made Sophia promise them a weekend during the Christmas Holidays for that too.
They'd come away with a substantial amount of new clothes, accessories and, most importantly in Terry's opinion, books - both Muggle and Wizard. He'd been ecstatic to find an extremely rare copy of a 12th century Tibetan Monk's manuscript on summoning charms in nearly its original form. Sophia had teased him about being a complete geek, but he'd just beamed at her and kissed her forehead happily. He'd never really known there were so many bookshops and he had a feeling they'd barely managed to peruse a tenths of the ones out there. Needless to say, their pockets and bags were nearly filled to overflowing with shrunken and feather-light packages.
Their stomachs were also over stuffed. They'd lunched on cheese and baguettes in Paris, street-side pretzels and hot dogs in New York, numerous Mediterranean dishes in Rome. Terry was almost surprised to find that he really liked hot dogs, especially dripping with onions, ketchup and mustard. It was no wonder, though, Americans were so unhealthy, eating food like that everyday couldn't be good for the internal organs. Sophia had laughed at him again when he'd said that, so he'd had no choice but to eat her hot dog as well, laughing at her when she pouted at him.
Finally, they'd Portkeyed back to Hogsmeade, and made their final stop, Eloise Midgen's bookshop. Terry was ashamed to say he hadn't been in there yet, and couldn't imagine why when he finally saw what she had to offer.
"This place is great!" he exclaimed to Sophia, still feeling pretty euphoric from their day. "Why haven't we come here yet?"
