RP: The Ligthing Ceremony
Date: 8 December 2005 (It's already Saturday in Oz)
Characters: The Cornfoot, Adrian, the Malfoys, Rodolphus, anyone and everyone who wants to come.
Location: Cornfoot Manor in Yorkshire
Private/Public: Public
Rating: TBA
Warnings: TBA
Summary: It's my party and I cry if I want to.
Completion: Complete

William had always followed in his father's footsteps, and the Lighting Ceremony was no exception. However this was one tradition he didn't mind to uphold. They had taken Elizabeth out of school the day before to stay at the manor. Stephen and Adrian had chosen to stay there too. In the morning they had had breakfast together, before helping the house elves with the decorations. This was the one day of the year when everyone was the same. There were no differences between purebloods and Muggleborns, wizards and Muggles or even house elves. It was something that Charles had stressed and William had learnt at a young age.

In the afternoon, they had gone to the chapel for the Mass, before heading off to where the party would be. They had set up, as usual, right in the middle of the park, the only flat land with a perfect view of all the trees. There was Christmas music echoing through the land. One year, one of the Muggles had congratulated them for the great surround system. William still wasn't sure exactly what a surround system was, but as long as the Muggles had an explanation for what was going on, he wouldn't correct them. There were tables set up with hot cider and tea. Everything was self-services since the Muggles didn't know about the house elves, and the house elves had a day off and their own private party from where they could see the lightening of the trees.

As dusk, father Luke said the blessing, and finally when the sun went down, the lights came alive. Every tree in the land lit up creating an amazing game of colours. The Muggles always laughed about their electricity bill and William had learnt to complain with a smile, and not mentioning the amount of magic involved to keep everything lit until the Epiphany. It didn't matter anyway, because this represented the start of a perfect holiday.

The crowd at this thing was always impressive, Cass thought, smiling as he walked through it, keeping his eyes open for Pansy or Percy, as he was fairly sure both would be here.

He smiled as a pretty muggle brushed against him, only casually glancing at his 'odd' clothes. Odd clothes indeed - real clothes - real silk. Expenive, exclusive silk.

Fucking hell he adored Pansy.

The feel of the silk against his skin when he moved was enough to keep him in a good mood, and the champagne and food didn't hurt. He looked out over the trees, waiting for them to light with the same enthusiasm as he had when he was a kid.

Anthony walks with Megan, a smile as his face as they walked through the crowd and mingled. It had been a while since he'd been to an event like this, and had to admit that the ceremony was quite a spectacular one. The trees looked wonderful, decorated in all matter of light and colour.

He kept one hand on his wand. Just because he was in the spirit did not mean he wasn't cautious.

He turned and flashed a smile at Megan. "Having a good time?" he asked, looking around. "Have you seen Kevin yet? He said he was going to be here. Swore on it, in fact."

Ernie wandered through the crowd with a smile on his face a cup of hot cider in his hand. He almost hadn't come tonight but now he was glad he'd let his sense of duty get the better of his tiredness and desire to mope for a bit. The Cornfoots always did a good job on this and while he hadn't been for a few years, it was still as good as he remembered.

He also liked the the Cornfoots didn't restrict it to just magical people. There were as many Muggles as magical people here and he had to laugh a bit at how they managed to explain the magic that they saw. Ernie knew enough of the Muggle world to know that if the Cornfoots had been doing this in the Muggle fashion their electrical bill would probably be enough to pay off the national debt.

He smiled and nodded to a young couple as he passed them though they were really too involved in each other to notice him. He laughed softly and continued wandering.

Miles had picked up Liam and Ella from Rosmerta. He was still worried about Millicent, but he figured that she could take care of herself. He was surprised at the lack of protest from Ella when he told her that Mummy wasn't feeling well, and that he was going to take them to the party, then they could have a sleepover in Liam's bedroom.

He had remembered such parties from when he was much younger, and there was a sense of innocence and wonder, seeing it freshly through his son's eyes. Much easier to think about it that way than to remember the face on Charles Cornfoot from when he was much younger. The hot cider went down well as he kept his focus on his son, and on Ella.

Liam was so wide eyed with wonder, Miles managed to find a smile (well, a satisfied smirk) on his face as they walked through the crowd. Everything took on a new meaning when Liam pointed it out for the first time.

Making sure the children both had a drink, and some sandwiches, he looked around for some familiar faces in the crowd.

Tracey had decided to forgo the glamour charms for once and go out looking pregnant. She felt... Well, rather brilliant at four months along and although the baby could kick until she felt sick with it, he or she had been quiet so far this evening. She'd bundled up in her warmest robes though, it was cold even for December, and although she'd already lost Draco to the crowds and interesting people, she was having a good time.

Picking up a cup of tea, she took a sandwich too and took a bite, looking around the place. She could see Draco and she thought Pansy but the presence of so many Muggles confused her a little, putting her off of her stride.

Keeping her hand on her bump, she started to mingle, hoping she'd see somebody she knew soon.

Fleur held Charlotte's hand and would have preferred to hold Luc's hand but he flat out refused to let her. He'd told her he was a big boy and didn't need it. It didn't stop Fleur from putting a charm on him when he wasn't looking. It would allow him his freedom but not let him go too far from her. There were just too many people here and she wasn't taking any chances.

Charlotte and Lucas were both amazed by all the lights and the people. Fleur had always loved Christmas and seeing it through the children's eyes was even better.

Luc and Char both wanted hot cider so they went to the table to get some food and drink and once that was done they started wandering around again.

Adrian snagged two cups of cider and moved over to where Stephen was, passing him one. He'd been amazed at the lights and the music and even if he would never, ever admit it, he kind of liked the Christmas thing. It was certainly... Fun. The children loved it too and seeing the looks on Elizabeth and Henry's faces, not to mention Violet's and the younger children's made the effort and magic involved worthwhile.

He turned slightly, kissing Stephen chastely. "You were right. I'm having a good time," he admitted, leaning into him a little. "Even if it is fucking freezing."

Severus kept to the edge of the crowd, one hand on Faustus' shoulder in a firm grip. He hadn't been planning on coming to the Cornfoot's ceremony due to the possible danger but Faustus had apparently heard all about it from Violet in enthusiastic detail and when he'd said no, Faustus had glared at him and sulked audibly, something that had only gotten worse when Draco, Tracey and Violet had left.

He wasn't quite sure what had made him finally capitulate but he suspected that memories of his own rather neglected childhood had had something to do with it. The lightening ceremony was something he would have liked to go to as a child, even if he would have sneered and been scornful as a cover.

Whatever the reason, they were here now and whenever he looked down, Faustus was staring at the trees or the people with open delight and fascination, making him feel that he'd made the right decision no matter how nervous and edgy it made him. Severus was keeping his wand close at hand though, he was not going to take any risks with either of them.

Daphne loved winter, and today's weather was remarkable. The air was cool and brisk against her flawlessly polished skin, but not frigid. She had on warm robes of sapphire blue, and had wrapped her son up in a complimenting lavender. She held Nigel close to her body to make sure he was warm. For the moment, he was napping against her, and he had been much more tolerable lately. Daphne hoped that he was past his crying constantly stage, and today would be a good day to test that. Regardless, she had her wand if she needed to either cast a warming spell to keep him happy, or even a silencing charm if she needed to make a hasty, but quiet, exit.

Although she preferred an indoor and more extravagant party, the light displays were still something to gaze at. Besides, this would tide her over for now.

She glanced around the area, looking for a familiar face. Surely, she would be able to catch up with some old friends tonight.
