Summary: It's my party and I cry if I want to.
Completion: Complete

William had always followed in his father's footsteps, and the Lighting Ceremony was no exception. However this was one tradition he didn't mind to uphold. They had taken Elizabeth out of school the day before to stay at the manor. Stephen and Adrian had chosen to stay there too. In the morning they had had breakfast together, before helping the house elves with the decorations. This was the one day of the year when everyone was the same. There were no differences between purebloods and Muggleborns, wizards and Muggles or even house elves. It was something that Charles had stressed and William had learnt at a young age.

In the afternoon, they had gone to the chapel for the Mass, before heading off to where the party would be. They had set up, as usual, right in the middle of the park, the only flat land with a perfect view of all the trees. There was Christmas music echoing through the land. One year, one of the Muggles had congratulated them for the great surround system. William still wasn't sure exactly what a surround system was, but as long as the Muggles had an explanation for what was going on, he wouldn't correct them. There were tables set up with hot cider and tea. Everything was self-services since the Muggles didn't know about the house elves, and the house elves had a day off and their own private party from where they could see the lightening of the trees.

As dusk, father Luke said the blessing, and finally when the sun went down, the lights came alive. Every tree in the land lit up creating an amazing game of colours. The Muggles always laughed about their electricity bill and William had learnt to complain with a smile, and not mentioning the amount of magic involved to keep everything lit until the Epiphany. It didn't matter anyway, because this represented the start of a perfect holiday.

Pansy wanted to linger over Cass's kiss, but they were in full view of everyone where they were standing. Regretfully, she let him pull back without a protest.

Well, maybe a little pout of disappointment, but a smiling one.

But Cass looked down at Polly, and Pansy shifted her gently so he could see her better. Polly looked up at him with her blue eyes and gurgled....something. She was trying to kick her feet, Pansy could tell, but the blanket was impeding the attempt. 'That means, Hello, Uncle Cass!' Pansy explained, laughing. 'We have to work on enunciation a little,' she added.

Polly crowed, and Pansy laughed again.

She looked at Cass more carefully, her eyes roaming over the robes he wore. 'Are those....?' she started to ask. 'Oh, they look wonderful!' she grinned. 'Oh, I'm so glad!' Giggling, she told him, 'Ooooh, wouldn't that make a nice Christmas present!'

He laughed at her 'translation' looking down at Polly once more. She was an adorable child, even if having her close was somewhat...frightening.

He was quite sure he'd be crap around a child, and really didn't fancy trying.

Focusing on her again, his eyes sparkled as he looked at her. 'And you just made my shopping so much easier,' he teased, stepping up to her and moving so he could put his arm around her waist without crushing the child. 'You have excellent taste,' he whispered in her ear.

Pansy tried not to smirk. She knew Cass was not a 'baby' kind of person, and it was really a little cruel of her to tease him. Briefly, she considered handing Polly to him...there was a time when she couldn't picture any of her friends except Tracey with children, but now she adored Polly and she'd seen Theo and Draco and Harry and Millicent all cradling her and beaming at her and cooing over her.

But that would be mean of her to just hand Polly off like that.

Polly looked up at her and gave the cutest little sneeze again, ending with such an owlish look of surprise, Pansy had to smile even though the continued sneezing was worrying her. 'Oh, dear,' she said.

Cass wrapped his arm around her waist. Pansy giggled and told him, 'I'd adore finding you wrapped in a bow for my present from Father Christmas!' With a warm smile, she had to add, 'And I've always had excellent taste, darling! I let you sweep me off my feet, after all!'

He couldn't help but to look at the baby girl as she sneezed. 'I didn't know babies sneezed,' he said surprised. 'Is she alright?' he asked, not knowing if it was normal or not. At her words, however, he moved his attention back to the goddess by his side, grinning as he raised his eyebrows.

'Who said that wasn't what I was referring too?' he asked teasingly, sniggering as he leaned in and kissed her behind her ear. 'I have to say I have rather brilliant taste myself,' he added in a low whisper.

'I don't know,' Pansy said a little hesitantly. 'She's never done it before,' she added, biting her lip. 'You don't suppose she's getting sick, do you?' she asked worriedly, as if Cass would have any idea at all.

Much like her.

Pansy had to smile at his teasing, her head tilting slightly when she felt his lips behind her ear. 'From the first time you decided you wanted to snog me,' she told him warmly. 'Or no, maybe from the first time you decided you wanted to watch me?' she teased, giggling as she remembered quite a few times she had 'showed off' for Cass, trying to catch his eye back in school.

He looked a bit at the baby, though she looked quite ok to him. 'I'm sure she's alright,' he said trying to sound reassuring.

He smiled as she went on. 'I remember watching you quite a bit,' he said with a smirk, kissing another spot on her neck. 'You were almost as irresistable then as you are now,' he whispered softly.

'I hope so,' Pansy said, biting her lip. 'She's never been sick before,' she added to herself, feeling the tiny nut of worry grow into something a bit larger.

Smiling at Cass, Pansy purred, 'At least I managed to keep your interest!' It would have been sad to have only been a conquest for him, forgotten once he'd had her. In fact, she was rather pleased that he still adored her after all this time. She must be doing something right....

Polly sneezed twice in a row. Supporting her with one hand, Pansy tried to feel her forehead with her other. Polly took exception to the procedure, tuning up her face to cry. Pansy shifted her, lifting the baby to her shoulder. 'Do you think she's got a fever?' she asked worriedly. 'She feels a little warm to me...' Polly's cry didn't have quite the volume that it usually had, either, sounding weak and cranky rather than her usual scream of irritation.

'How could someone so gorgeous and clever ever lose my attention?' he said with a smirk. 'Not to mention someone so absolutely wicked in bed,' he added in low tones.

In spite of the flirting, he could see that she was worried about her daughter though. When she asked if the baby - Polly, he reminded himself - was warm, however, he couldn't help but to smile. 'You're asking the wrong person, Pans. I wouldn't have a clue.' He smiled softly, running his hand through her hair. 'I'm sure she's just fine, though. But if you're worried can't you ask someone who'd know? Tracey? Millicent perhaps. They'd know.'

Pansy giggled and rubbed against him with her shoulder coquettishly. 'It's just because I find you so incredibly enticing,' she told him with a grin. She tilted her head up to whisper, 'And everything we do in bed is wonderful fun!' She winked at him.

'Maybe I should have a healer look at her,' Pansy said, frowning. She leaned her head over to Polly's and rubbed her cheek against her daughter's. 'She does feel a little warm,' she said, her frown growing more concerned.

The thought of Pansy and a bed always brought a certain smirk to his lips, but tonight it didnt' linger too long as even he realised that she couldn't very well walk up to the Cornfoots and ask for a room to shag in and a house elf to take care of the child.

Besides, she seemed really worried. He frowned. 'Do you really think a healer is necessary?' he asked, stroking her hair again. 'Isn't it easier to just ask someone who's a mother?'

Pansy recognized the look to Cass's lips and she smirked herself. It was nice to know that he wasn't getting tired of her. She enjoyed their time together and wanted him to, as well. Plus, knowing you kept a man who had as much experience as she suspected Cass had happy was rather an accomplishment. And her smile did rather resemble a cat who'd gotten into the cream.

'Hey, did you make things up with that girl you took to the Inn? She didn't stay long, and I was worried that I might have really fouled things up for you....' she told him.

With a sigh, Pansy looked around but she didn't see anyone she knew other than Cass. 'I don't see anyone,' she told him worriedly. And would she trust them if she did? She just didn't know...

He did like that smile, and matched it with one of his own, only nodding when she spoke of Natalie. 'Yeah, we're quite fine actually,' he said. 'Though I'd love to get the two of you alone in a room again,' he added with a wink.

He scanned the crowd seeing the back of someone he thought might be Tracey. 'Isn't that Tracey?' he asked. 'You can ask her, she'd know, I'm sure,' he said softly. 'And I'm convinced it's nothing.'

Pansy almost purred, shifting Polly slightly in her arms. 'She is quite lovely, isn't she?' she said thoughtfully. 'Do you think she would?' she smirked, giving him a look of mischief.

Cass pointed out someone and Pansy turned to look. 'Tracey?' she said. 'Yes, I think it is her. It wouldn't hurt to ask, I suppose,' she allowed, pressing her cheek against Polly's again. She did feel warm, really. Pansy frowned.

Cass smirked. 'With the right, very slow, approach...yes I think she might,' he said with a grin.

He then focused on finding Tracey before she vanished in the crowd, keeping a protective arm around Pansy as they moved.
