Millicent really didn't want to go to the party tonight. She was tired and felt worn and still had moments where she wanted to do nothing but cry. Her heart was hurting, and the look on Ella's face, the change in her mood, was breaking her heart.

Still, the party would be good distraction – for Ella at least – and it was tradition and she really couldn't refuse Ella to take part in it. The option not to go was really not there, was it?

Having to work a few hours this morning, she'd dropped off Ella and Liam at Rosie's (she couldn't believe she had been attacked yet again) and was due to pick them up when she got off. Yet when she did, she couldn't bring herself to get them. She was so tired, and what she really needed was just an couple of hours of piece and quiet. Maybe Rosie wouldn't mind? She could go home, take a rest, then get dressed for the party and go and get Ella and Liam. It would actually be easier getting them ready if she was already dressed to go.

Deciding it was probably the wisest choice, she changed direction of her steps, heading home instead. Yet there she could hardly rest at all. Just the feel of her bed felt strange when there was no weight on the other side, no warm body go press up against. She did not lay there long before giving up on rest and started to stare at her closet instead.

It was odd. With Pansy's gift she did have robes that would look splendid tonight. The light pink ones – but she'd worn those to her first date with Justin. The deep blue ones – but she'd worn those when she went with Justin to the ball. Fighting back the tears, she pushed all of them away, every single one of them representing a hope she no longer had. A normal life, a family, happiness – love. It was all a vain hope.

She settled for deep red robes she'd worn as a whore, just charming the neckline to move up a bit. Looking at herself in the mirror the robes reminded her of what she truly was – worthless.

She hardly noticed the knock on the door at first, too caught up in the image of her old self in the mirror, but they knocked again. Looking towards the door, she left the room and walked downstairs to the hallway, opening the door, her eyes widening in surprise when she saw the men outside until she realised what they must be after.

'Miles lives next door,' she said, leaning out slightly from her door and pointing at the door that was his. 'He's not at home though,' she added, trying to keep her annoyance from her voice. Merlin knew where Miles was these days.

Miles saw the moment when she let the magic go - feeling it ebbing away. He let go of his own grasp on the spell, feeling a protest from the magic as he did so.

He heard her speak, sounding so... normal. He let out a breath that he didn't realise he held, but glanced at her in concern. He was about to protest and ask if she wanted a healer, but he wasn't about to argue with her.

Miles was concerned for her, glancing in her direction as she walked tall and proudly to the stairs.

But turning back, he saw the mess and could still hear the whining cries of the three idiots. Still holding onto their wands he summoned the three, hearing more cries as they magically were dragged to the middle of the floor.

He bound them magically with rope, and grabbed an apple core that he found on the kitchen bench. Turning it into a portkey, he glared at them. "You deserve everything you got. I'm sure Rodolphus would love to hear of your stupidity."

Setting the portkey to take them to Upper Slaughter, he threw it on top of them, watching as they vanished a moment later. The cessation of their cries made the place seem more silent than it was. There was the sound of running water upstairs, and he pointed his wand at the bloodstains on the carpet.

He saw that one of the severed cocks was still lying there, and with a quick "Incendio", the offending appendage was turned to ash. It didn't take long for Miles to clean the place, his concern turning back to Millicent as he thought to wander up the stairs and wait outside the bathroom. He would be there if she needed him.
