Adrian was wary as soon as William sent Bitsy to find him, Apparating straight to Cornfoot Manor and into William's study. He wouldn't get waylaid by Evelyn and the children, not when there William had something important to share.

When William showed him the message, he wondered if Malfoy had found out what he was most dreading, that Stephen was actually dead. He didn't hesitate before Apparating to Malfoy Manor, glad when he heard the crack of Apparition that signalled William's arrival.

The house elf showed them to where Malfoy was and Adrian couldn't keep quiet any longer. "What have you found out?"

When he felt the arrival, he wondered how those two could move so quickly, still it was probably best. He had known what Severus would say even before he had shown him the message. However, expediency or not, he still didn't like Pucey's tone.

"Did I or didn't I mention to keep him on a leash?" he asked William. However, he forestalled any complaint by telling them what he knew.

"You boy had damaged or destroyed the wards at Lestrange manor. No one is sure and I doubt anyone wants to ask my uncle what is the truth, since the rumour going around is that Severus did it," he explained. "I guess uncle won't be pleased with thagt." He didn't even want to think in what state they'd get him back, however it was a blow to his uncle and his ego, and Draco approved of Stephen's methods.

"There was no leash mentioned actually although I didn't think that was your thing," Adrian retorted. He could do this, banter back, because it stopped him from thinking about the news for a miniute longer.

At the news, Adrian's eyes widened and he felt some of the tension lift off of his shoulders. If Stephen had done such a thing then he most certainly wasn't dead and Adrian could work with that. "You're sure?" he asked.

He looked between them all. "If the wards are down, even partly, then why are we still waiting here? You all know as well as I do that Rodolphus will kill him if we linger," he reasoned.

"Well I meant to, and I'm not above using a leash or a gag when it comes to you," Draco answered. "And yes, I'm sure. I wouldn't have called you if I wasn't. The wards are damaged, someone who isn't us did it, I can't imagine any death eater living at upper Slaughter doing it, which leaves us with the idea that Stephen did it."

He turned to Severus. "Could you explain to him why I didn't arrenge a rendevouz at my uncle?"

"Such a sweet talker," Adrian replied with a roll of his eyes.

He resisted the urge to sigh impatiently at Malfoy's words even though he really, really wanted to. Why did everyone take him for some sort of idiot?

"Most of the Death Eaters at Upper Slaughter won't even take a shit without Rodolphus telling them to so no, I agree that it probably wasn't them. I'm also not quite that stupid but I'd suggest getting a plan together within the next half an hour so Rodolphus doesn't know what's hit him."

He shrugged. "I only know that when he finds out Stephen's responsible for it, he'll take it out on him. I'd really rather have my husband in one piece if at all possible," He turned to Snape. "Is the Fidelius on the village tied to the manor as well as Lestrange considering it covers a village and not a sole house? Could we get the Aurors there quick enough if it's damaged?"

Severus had been pacing during the initial part of the meeting, running through his options even as he listened to what was being said. Mostly he was considering what he managed to achieve in his experimentation and the possibilities they had now. He stopped and faced the other three men when Draco spoke his name.

"The Fidelius and the other wards around the town are separate to the manor wards. Rodolphus did not want them connected in case of circumstances like this though he was more thinking the other direction. He didn't want attacks on the town wards to affect the manor. But irrespective of that, the town wards will be unaffected."

He gave Adrian a long look. "Getting your husband back undamaged is unlikely at this point but Rodolphus is also unlikely to kill him outright. Bellatrix would but not Rodolphus. He is a bit more controlled."

He paced for a moment; he didn't think any of the men in the room were going to like what he had to say, Draco and Adrian especially. William was likely to be the most reasonable and hopefully he might even be helpful as well.

"This is not going to be a group effort," he announced bluntly. "In fact the only person going in will be me. I have come up with something that I think will allow me to pass through whatever remains of the manor wards but I do not have time to teach any of you. And I will have to go almost immediately. I won't be able to move until it's dark but that won't be too long at this time of year."

He had learnt not to argue with Severus when he was like that, but that didn't mean he liked it, not one bit. "Once in a while you could try not acting like a Gryffindor, if not for me, for Faustus," he muttered. Not that he wanted to go himself. He had done it for Severus, but he didn't risk his life for everyone.

"I'll go to the shop, and get anything that might come in handy when you do get him back," he suggested. "It might be useful to have a Healer close by in case we need one. I'd rather not take him to the Shack where they might not like some of the potions at our disposal."
