Summary: Draco tells them about the changes in the wards, and Severus decides it's time to rescue Stephen

The moment he saw the owl from Vince, Draco knew that there would be some news about Stephen. Whether bad or good, he didn't know, and was almost afraid to read, because he feared what Pucey would do if something went wrong. Draco really didn't need the man to screw up all the war efforts over one man. Still he had to know.

He opened the message and had to smile at Vince's lack of eloquence:

Draco,

I was at the Lestrange's and everything went fucking insane, like an explosion but not, and the wards for the manor were all fucked up. Lestrange was so pissed off that I left because I don't fancy the Cruciatus. There are rumours that there are no wards, or some wards or possibly all the wards, and some have said that Snape has tried to destory the house. Thing is no one knows for sure what's going on.

It certainly was helpful. No one in Upper Slaughter would have the courage to destroy the wards at his uncle's house. He wasn't sure that the idiots living up there would have had the knowledge. Since no one in the Order would have had access and he and Severus hadn't done anything, that left one person: Stephen Cornfoot.

Draco wrote two quick messages.

William,

I have news. Come to the manor immediately and bring Pucey ~~on a leash~~. The house elves will show you in.

Draco

The second was even easier.

Vince,

It was very useful.

Draco

Having sent both owls, he Apparated upstairs to show Severus the owl from Vince.

"I just wish he was back at your manor. He'd be happier there," he said with a sigh. "Not that it matters, I suppose. A bed's a bed but he'll bitch to high heaven about being in Snape's debt."

He shook his head; there was no way on earth he was leaving just in case Snape managed to get in there earlier than expected. "No," he replied. "No, I'll just sit and... I don't know, do nothing, something, I don't care. I've waited five days, a few more hours won't hurt now."

Adrian smiled slightly. "At least I'll be able to sleep and eat again."

"I honestly don't care what he thinks at the moment. Snape is getting him out; Stephen will see reasonw soon enough. If there is something he hates, it's being irrational," William said.

He saw Draco and John enter a room. He ignored Draco's 'whatever you do, don't destroy anything', but turned to face Adrian. "You need anything while we're in that room, you want an excuse to be without Draco, whatever it is, let me know. You both are worried and winding each other up isn't going to help." He smiled. "I'll pretend that I didn't hear that or I'd have to tell Evelyn that I lied when I said that you were sleeping and eating, although there were sandwiches on your desk to go with the scotch and whiskey. You know something else? You've held up better than anyone thought. I'm really proud of you, love."

He ignored Malfoy, concentrating on William and smiling a little when he went into typical big brother mode. "You don't need to do anything, I'll just ignore him. I'm pretty much tired enough to not concentrate so that shouldn't be a problem and it's Malfoy... I've been ignoring him for years with a brilliant success rate."

Adrian shook his head. "It astounds me how much people assume I'll either do something stupid or break down completely. I didn't when my parents died, I never have done. I want to, God... I really do but I won't until Stephen's back and safe."

"Okay," he said smiling. "I can't stop worrying. It comes with the job. I just never thought I'd be worrying about you."

William shrugged. "People think what they think. It doesn't really matter, what matter is that you don't break down, not yet, because you are the one he will need." He put his hands on Adrian's shoulders. "It's also perfectly all right to accept a compliment with a simple thank you instead of an explanation. You are an amazing young man who has shown strength and grace in a difficult situation, and I know you will continue to do so for as long as Stephen needs you to, and maybe you don't want others to see it, but it doesn't change the act that it's true."

"Worry about Stephen. He needs it more than I do," Adrian said. He wasn't sure why he couldn't just accept the fact that William thought of him as family, as a younger brother, but it was hard to get his head around even after so many months.

"Yeah, you might want to stop me from jumping on him as soon as I see him. Injuries or not, I can't just stand there," he replied with a small smile. "And I don't do thank you's or apologies. It drives your brother nuts."

	"Well, I'll worry for the both of you," he said, not letting Adrian off the hook. Whether he like it or not, Adrian was family. "That's all right. We'll teach you some manners eventually.
