RP: A Second 'Date'
Date: 17 June 2005
Characters: Rodolphus Lestrange, Romilda Vane
Location: The Imperial, London
Private/Public: Private
Rating: TBA
Warnings: TBA
Summary: Rodolphus and Romilda have their second assignation... this time in Muggle London.
Completion: Complete

Rodolphus stood in the middle of his bedroom and looked at himself in the mirror. He couldn't help the tiny smile that curved his lips at the sight of himself in Muggle clothing. Jeans, black t-shirt under a blue button-down shirt, black boots and a long black duster. These were clothes he kept carefully hidden from his wife. He did not share his wife's view of Muggles. He didn't think they should be part of the wizarding world but he acknowledged they had their place in the world.

He gave himself another long look then walked over to the dresser and picked up the portkey he'd prepared for himself. He felt it was be unwise to walk through the manor and Upper Slaughter dressed like this. It might raise questions he didn't want to have to answer just yet.

He activated the portkey and in a few moments found himself in a deserted laneway. Unlike many others it was neat and reasonably clean and he leaned against the brick wall. His wand was tucked into his duster and he was reasonably skilled at wandless magic so he wasn't concerned about any possible trouble. All he was waiting for now was Romilda.

It had gone down so fast, she barely tasted it, but even the thought of it did make her feel a little queasy. His story did amuse her as she looked at the next one.

"I'm fairly certain it was a bunch of drunken quidditch players who decided to eat it on a dare." That had been the last time she had tried one - a very sordid and drunken night with Miles and a couple of his mates from quidditch. "Although come to think of it, he would have had to have been a Gryffindor." It was the only explanation as to why anyone would even consider eating one.

There was a slow and tingling buzz running through her as the oyster settled, and she watched as Rodolphus drank down his own. That playfully wicked smile spoke straight to her, and she found herself mesmerised as he drank. Of course, he didn't make the same faces she did, and he seemed to enjoy it.

"They say you should drink them immediately," she said as she looked at the second glass. If I truly was a brave Gryffindor, I wouldn't be sitting here having second thoughts, would I?" she said as she looked at the glass. She quickly brought it to her lips and tilted her head back, swallowing. If truth be told, she'd swallowed many worse things over her working years, but she didn't want to think about that now.

"There you go. An example of complete Gryffindor bravery." Now the heartburn could set in.

Rodolphus snorted with a mix of amusement and bitterness. "If you're hungry enough, you'll eat anything. And considering what they gave us sometimes in Azkaban, I'd have appreciated an oyster or two. Stale bread and equally stale water are not overly appetising."

He shook away the sudden bitterness. He'd had the last laugh after all, escaping from Azkaban not once but twice. And look what he'd done with his freedom - made himself powerful, made his wife a leader and now... he was here with Romilda.

He grinned at her as she swallowed down her second shooter. "Well, staring at them won't make them look any more appetising."

He saluted her again with his second glass and swallowed it down. The alcohol was giving him a bit of a buzz and while he was nowhere near drunk, he would appreciate it when their main meals arrived.

"Hmm,"he said. "If you've just given a display of Gryffindor bravery, what have I done?"

"Oh," she said when he started talking about Azkaban. Again she saw the pain in his eyes, and she rested her hand on his arm. She could see lines around his eyes, lines that she suspected might not have been there had he not had to go to such a ghastly place.

She had lots of questions about Azkaban, but knew better than to ask him. The last thing she really wanted was maudlin and depressed company. "But you're gone from there now," she added softly, "and you need never have stale bread and water again."

"I think that's the point. The longer you stare at them, the more reason you have not to eat or drink them."

"I don't think it counts as bravery if you actually like them," she added with a chuckle. "Although you're right, I can't taste them now, although two shooters and a beer... I might need my own prop to keep me held up as we play billiards," she said jokingly, waiting now for some food to help absorb some of the alcohol.

Surely that must be what was making her just a little light headed, and not the little patch of skin just below Rodolphus' ear that seemed to keep her mesmerised.

"Argh," Rodolphus said with a grimace. "Forgive me. Such things are not appropriate topics of conversation on a night like this."

He smiled a little. "Yes, I confess I do like oysters. Have you ever tried Oysters Kilpatrck? They oysters are raw, yes, but accompanied by bacon, lemon, tomato sauce and tabasco. Very tasty."

He grinned. "Yes, I think I've had quite enough alcohol myself for the moment. But if you need a prop, might I be so bold as to offer myself?"

Now that comment could be taken in a few ways. Rodolphus licked his lips and raised an eyebrow at her, a wicked look in his eyes.

She let the topic go, grateful that he could as well. Still, the thought of living off stale bread and water didn't bear thinking about.

"I can't say I have. But it would seem that many oyster recipes seem to have them completely engulfed in sauces or smothered in other tasty foods to help disguise the taste, hmmm? I can't think why?" she rolled her eyes for effect.

It was when he licked his lips like that after such a comment that she let her thoughts wander, and she had to blink to bring herself back to the present. "Well you would certainly be a much more comfortable prop than one of those things that held the cuestick up."

"See, I don't even remember what it is called, I believe you have your work cut out for you tonight, Rodolphus." She matched his smirk with her own, licking the edge of her lip.
