RP: A trap turns into a battle...
Date: July 23, 2005 (5ish in the morning)
Characters: A whole bunch of people – add your tags
Location: Glastonbury Tor
Private/Public: Very, very public
Rating: NC-17 for violence and death
Warnings: Probably more than could fit…violence, death, torture, hexes…
Summary: A trap slams shut.
Completion: InComplete

There was a feeling of fright and dread in the air already, as well as one of anticipation. Bellow the hill Aurors and Order members were arriving, confused to see each other but all determined, even trying to get the Muggles down from the power lines. Lucius chuckled at their vain attempts, watching them from his position at the hill, hidden beneath an invisibility cloak.

Ensuring with hushed whispered that both Natasha and Darby were masked and turned so that the Aurors couldn't see who they were, Lucius judged the situation, waiting until they were close enough to see them, but far enough that they would still think Natasha and Darby were Bellatrix and Rabastian, thenhe threw off the cloak. Smirking as the three of them stood out in the pale light of the moon, he let go of the lifeless form of one more Muggle, letting it roll down the hill at the people gathered below. Natasha laughed manically – her laugh almost earily like Bellatrix's. He watched the Aurors and soldiers look up, point and scream.

'It's them!' he heard, then they moved – almost as one – up the hill, some running, some moving more slowly.

'Take them alive!'

Utter fools!

A few moments later they were all on the hill, and Lucius raised his wand sending up bright green sparks into the air – only a taste of what would come – then the trap sprung shut around the group, DEs pouring out from every bush and shrub in the area – completely and utterly surrounding the Order members.

It was going to be a fine slaughter tonight.

Natasha couldn't steady her breathing, excitement flowing through her body as the battle drew nearer. Such an honor. To stand as bait on the hill - pretending to be Bellatrix herself.

Feeling the air hit her as the cloak dropped she laughed, hearing the sounds of the battle as it drew nearer. Then there were green sparks and she nearly groaned as she turned ready to kill.

Matthew dutifully followed his commander up the hill. He'd been in a minor scuffle or two but this promised to be an actual battle. Matthew had made extensive study of battles. He'd also done a fair bit of background reading on Bellatrix. The young female auror he'd asked to spar and pretend to be her had gone down after, well, to be honest, it hadn't been much of a fight. The woman was insane after all. And she was here.

Matthew adjusted his glasses, took his wand firmly in hand, in the appropriate grip, and headed straight for her. It was about time someone took it upon themselves to rid the world of this obnoxious chit.

Gawain had heard the report from the young Muggleborn man. When he mentioned the perpetrators were Bellatrix, Rabastan and Lucius, he put all available Aurors on alert.

He assigned a couple of his team to help the Order bring the Muggle victims down from the powerlines. It was ghastly. Staring up at the Tor, Gawain could see Bellatrix standing there in all her glory.

"After me," he said to the other Aurors, his wand firmly in hand as they made their way up the hill.

Severus had already been up, busy in his workroom, when Minerva’s patronus came. He hesitated for a moment then banished the potion he’d been working on. It would explode if left and he’d hadn’t gotten so far that it annoyed him to abandon it. He stalked over to his potions cabinet and pulled out a glass flask that held some of his prepared Polyjuice. He poured some of it into a goblet and most of the rest into a silver flask reminiscent of Moody’s.

Once that was done, he swallowed the Polyjuice in the goblet and shuddered through the transformation. He quickly changed robes into something plainer... something not identifiable as something he would wear... and ran out of the castle. The moment he was past the wards he apparated to Glastonbury Tor in time to see Lucius make a spectacle of himself.

Severus swore and whirled around. Lucius would not risk himself like that unless....

As he watched, Lucius sent up green sparks and Death Eaters burst out from their hiding spots. Severus swore vociferously as he pulled out his wand. It was an ambush and they’d just walked straight into it. Then he didn’t have time to work out what had happened as he ducked a curse and turned his attention to keeping himself alive

When he saw green sparks in the air, Fenrir turned to the werewolves gathered near him. He’d been disappointed that the ambush hadn’t been planned for a full moon but he was certain this his pack would do plenty of damage even in their human form.

"Go!" he snarled and watched as they scattered out into the battle. He didn’t need to give them orders. He’d done that earlier and they knew what to do.

He rose to his feet and glanced around the field. He caught a glimpse of long red hair over to one side. Red hair associated with the Order usually meant Weasleys and long red hair possibly meant the girl. He howled with delight as he ran out into the fray.

Antonin Apparated onto the Tor with the usual pop. Taking a couple of quick steps, he went down on one knee to check out the battle. It appeared to be the typical furball. He cast a quick finite on his transfigured armor, causing it to revert to its regular form. Standing, he waited for Morag to catch up with him.

Miles had not been expecting to be out fighting after a night at Escapism, but he came home to find a raven waiting for him. He was needed, at Glastonbury Tor, and they were setting a trap for the Order and the Aurors. Of course, he couldn't say 'No' when Rabastan called him.

He'd arrived fairly late, with Rabastan glaring at him for his tardiness. He shrugged, wondering if Montague came home to the same summons. He wondered how his friend was going to explain that to Verity.

He waited beyond the trees, his mask already in place. The last thing he needed was a bloody order member to recognise him and run him out of town.

He had to admit, he was cruising for a fight, and the first mudblood in his path was going to go down. He took a deep breath, his heart pumping the minute he saw the green sparks rise.

It was on!

Rabastan looked over his men, scowling at Beltchley when he arrived late. All were present and accounted for, which pleased him greatly. He sent them to their positions, knowing he had planned this well, and that many more lives were going to be taken today. The killing of the Muggles was just an appetizer.

As he stood alone, he saw a black cat approach him, twirling around his legs before moving to sit in front of him. He looked at the cat and smiled. "The moment is upon us, Lisa."

Remus Apparated to Glastonbury Tor, wand in hand. It was already chaos. Experience told him that this had been carefully planned to cause as much damage as possible. He knew that it would be a massacre, because this kind of violence only generated more violence.

He looked around, wand in hand. He saw Greyback fighting with Bill and Charlie, and he wanted to go there, but this wasn't about revenge. It was about justice.

The Auror laid dead by his feet as Lucius moved on to the next one casting a killing curse at the back of someone he didn't recognise. The solder - he didn't seem to be an Auror - fell immediately, and the Death Eater on the other side smirked at him, just before he ducked another hex.

It took a moment before Lucius realised who the caster was. Harry Potter! Well, well, Lucius had more than one bone to pick with that boy.

Moving quickly, he killed off another one on his way, snapping the girls neck on the way, before approaching Potter from behind.

Oh it would be easy this way - but he wanted Potter to know who killed him.

'Potter!' he called out, his wand already aimed as Harry spun around. 'Crucio!'

Blaise wasn't in the best mood. He wasn't fond of battling, nor was he fond of being awake before the sun decided to crest. Watching Lisa with Rabstaban only made his annoyance grow into fury. Luckily he'd have plenty of people to take that anger out on.

Once the sparks went up he quickly moved into the battle, nimbly avoiding hexes while taking down others. He hadn't stopped to play with any of his victims yet and his blood was singing for it. As he looked up he saw her and a wicked smile played across his lips.

Little Auror Bell. She would be fun. He moved behind a tree sending a hex at her, she wasn't even likely to notice it, a slow rising pain, developed himself. There was no need to get things done quickly when you could enjoy them.

He saw an Order member approaching and fired a quick slashing hex before moving away from him and turning his attention back to Bell.

She caught groups fighting here and there- thought she saw Bill and Charlie against Greyback, there was a lot of blood and she could only worry for them; as well as feel the blood boil in her veins- Greyback had ruined her life, and she wanted revenge- but now was not the time for revenge, she needed to fight and protect...

A Death Eater came towards her, obviously new- or amateur and within moments she had them stunned, on the ground, and heading for her next opponent.

Both twins were both ready and eager for battle, Fred a little more so but he wanted to keep both eyes on George as much as possible. So they opted to linger back behind the full on melee, taking out as many as the oncoming death eaters as possible and warning those behind them, rushing into battle.

Fred was not ready to see George hewed open again, so this was a safe bet while still being useful.

She had been expecting another battle for weeks- she just wished it wasn't now...her knee was bad and Hannah had disappeared, she didn't have any pain potions and she'd gone off on a few co-workers more than once.

It kept her distracted, and she had a bad feeling all around about entering the field, but she would do her duty- wand at the ready, surveying the scene.

Kingsley was efficiently picking through the death eaters, trying to make his way up the hill to the Tor. He'd stopped to help a fallen Order member once, narrowly missing a DE's hex in the meantime.

As he got closer things seemed to get quieter. There were a few Death Eaters at the top, but most of the battle raged on below them.

Kingsley felt, more than heard the growl escape his lips as he approached, two young bloods stepping in front of him. They would be simple enough.

He fired off an expelliarmus and a body bind quickly at the one before turning back to the other.

Bellatrix had been looking forward to this for quite a while. A bit of torture was always a good thing in her book, but a full-out battle was all the better. More blood was spilled and the cries of pain were louder and more frequent, echoing in her ears like the most glorious of symphonies.

The cry to take them alive made her laugh wickedly. That was the reason the Light would never defeat them. They still clung to a foolish moral code.

She began hexing without much in the way of a plan. After all, chaos was so much sweeter. Of course, she never cursed any of her dark fellows, despite the amusing temptation that played out in her head.

Bellatrix swept through the battlefield with practiced eases, dodging bolts of light and various other spell effects. Anyone who wished to take her on personally had consigned their way to an early grave.

Minerva had co-ordinated the removal of the bodies of the muggle victims, learning as they did so that they were some of the family and friends of young Justin Finch-Fletchley. She tutted and shook her head at that knowledge, knowing that she should at some point soon seek out Justin.

At the shouts from the Tor, she realised that this whole thing had been an ambush. Lure them there with the wards going down, and lie in wait. She had noticed Robards and his team arrive as well as they all made their way towards the Tor.

She carefully picked her way towards the hill, regretting the lack of cover. A curse came in her direction, and she dodged, sending one back in the direction from where it came.

There were people down already, and Minerva was on her guard, spotting many people already injured, and a few bodies. With no time to fret, she gripped her wand further and entered into the fray.

Kristina had seen that obnoxious prick Andrew take off after the Death Eater on the hill, and it had crossed her mind to follow after. The man was a complete and utter moron, after all. A very large Death Eater stepped into her path before she could really set the plan into action.

She focused on taking him down. Getting him properly binded before she looked up to check on Matthew again. She grimaced at what she saw. Good Merlin, was the woman having an orgasm!?

Kristina took off at a dead run when the flash of green erupted from the woman's wand. It was too late to save him, but Kristina had never really had much hope for that one anyway.

"Expelliarmus!" she shouted, once she was in good firing range.

Aberforth apparated into a scene of chaos. The battle was fully engaged and looked like any other he'd been involved in - chaos. He heard the sound of what had to be Dolohov and Morag apparating in nearby. He went to turn and speak to them when he saw a flash of red coming towards him.

He duck and rolled, thankful for the training he'd been doing lately, but unfortunately he had been forced to roll away from Dolohov and Morag. He came to his feet, almost casually flinging a blasting hex in the direction the spell had come, and looked around.

He swore under his breath as he realised Dolohov and Morag had disappeared into the melee. How in Merlin's name did a man in armour disappear like that?

He shook his head and switched his wand over to his left hand and pulled his axe off his belt with his right. He hefted the axe in his hand and dismissed Antonin from his thoughts. The man could look after himself and with any luck he'd be able to find him later. Now he'd had work to do.

Rodolphus sat back on his heels with a look of triumph on his face. Beside him lay the remains of nearly two dozen knives. Some of the blades were blackened and charred, others were warped and melted, still other were gone altogether. But they had served their purpose and the last of the wards was now gone.

He reached out and opened the trapdoor, smiling at the sight below it. He quickly transferred the silk-wrapped items to his bag, not wanting to waste anymore time. He had heard the battle raging outside on the tor and he wanted to know how they were faring. If all their plans had gone as they ought to, they should be winning.

He packed the last artefact into the bag and shrank it, knowing the spells on the bag would protect the artefacts inside. He tucked the bag into his robes and turned to the last unopened case at his feet. He opened it and pulled out his sword, running a hand along the flat of the blade as he smiled with anticipation.

Now that his work was done, it was time for some play.

He grabbed his wand from the floor and stalked towards the staircase. He left the spent knives and their cases behind. They were of no use to him now. He charged up the stairs and through the tower until he came to the doorway. He stopped there for a moment and watched the battle. Yes, it looked like it was largely going their way. He could see bodies lying on the ground and very few wore Death Eater robes and masks.

He raised his wand towards the sky and in a triumphant voice, he said, "MORSMORDRE."

Green sparks flew from his wand and coalesced in the sky, creating an immense glowing skull with a snake winding its way out of the mouth. The Dark Mark. Something not seen since the fall of Voldemort. Rodolphus laughed as he readied his sword. Let them stare at the Mark in horror and fear and let them think what they will.

Hermione arrived at Glastonbury Tor just before the battle had begun. Looking around, she saw both the Order and the Aurors there. The first order of business before doing anything else was to see if she could find and locate Harry and Ron somewhere in the thick of the crowd. Surely they'd be together, she thought, but didn't have much time after that as she saw green sparks emit into the air out of the corner of her eye. It was as if everything that had been standing still beforehand started moving as an entire unit towards - who was that?

The last time she'd ran into a battle, Ron had been seriously injured and part of her hair had been singed off. Wherever Harry and Ron were, she desperately hoped nothing happened to them and was determined to find them before eventually.

It wasn't long before it began and she was in the thick of it. Spells were flying left and right, and the voices of those spells rang around them only to be followed by cries of pain when they met their intended targets. Ducking past a hex that was thrown at the person next to her, she turned around and aimed her wand at an approaching woman whom she didn't recognise. The look on her face was all Hermione needed to see before she threw a disarming spell, her aim careful and precise.

Colin was ducking curses and hexes left and right. He'd lost sight of Dennis ages ago it seemed and he hoped his brother was alright. He and Cormac had been fighting along side each other since they'd entered the fray. Cormac hadn't wanted to let Colin fight at all, but Colin convinced him everything would be alright - and it had been up to now.

He fired off a hex at a death eater across a clearing, and waited long enough to see him drop to the ground. He could hear Cormac near him fighting as well.

It seemed like things this time around were going much better, and Colin was glad of it. He'd gotten a few small scrapes since they started, but nothing too terrible. And he was beginning to think that perhaps they'd all get out of this alive.

Natasha's breaths were coming in shallow breaths as she rose from the lifeless body of some young soldier or Auror. He'd been a good kill - fought back hard - and he had several bruises and cuts now. She moaned, licking his blood off her hand as she picked up her wand.

The Dark Mark shone brightly above them and she looked at it with glee. There had been panic as it went up - screams and cries and oh so sweet distraction on the part of those she fought. She'd never seen it before - but it was beautiful.

Shuddering with pleasure, she looked over the battlefield, ready to find someone new to kill.

Tonks arrived back at the battlefield with the loud pop! that always indicated apparition. She was already moving and away from the area before the noise could have garnered attention, her old training and years of experience taking over and distracting her from the aches and bruises she still had. Her short walk to the apparition point from the Shack had almost persuaded her that Pye was right and she should have just gone home, but the number and nature of injuries showing up at the Shack, added to the demeanor of those arriving, spoke volumes about how this battle was going.

That meant the Order's objective would now be to get as many people out alive as they could to fight another day. And she was healthy enough to help with that, at least. Saved her from thinking, and that was a good thing just then.

She moved across the battlefield, her senses alert to possible Death Eaters as she checked for survivors that could be sent back to the Shack. Suddenly, she dropped to a crouch, wand at the ready as she heard a soft footfall just behind her. Her crouch turned into a roll, somewhat clumsy and definitely painful as a rock dug into her shoulder, but she was soon facing her opponent with a defensive shielding spell in place.

Through al the chaos he hadn’t noticed the body. Though how that had happened, he wasn’t sure. It was hanging from the tower at the top of the hill, rigid and lifeless. His mentor, his leader—hanging there on display like some sort of sick side show attraction.

Williamson felt bile rise in his throat, but he didn’t have time for that now. His men and women were being slaughtered out there—they were surrounded and out numbered and if this went on much longer, there would be nothing left of the Aurors or the Order by the time the Death Eaters were done.

He didn’t see Kingsley and didn’t have time to look. He had to act. He sent white sparks into the air, signaling the retreat, and watched as Aurors and Order members started Apparating and Portkeying away, some carrying wounded and dead, some just able to take themselves.

He didn’t wait around, couldn’t. There were too many Death Eaters with bloodlust still high in their eyes. There wasn’t a clear path to the tower, and though it killed him, he would have to leave Robards there until it was safe to come back.

The Death Eaters weren’t likely to stick around long if there wasn’t anyone to fight, and when it was safe Williamson would come back and clean up. There were families to be notified, bodies to bury and more work to be done in the mean time.

He Apparated away, hating having to cry defeat, but knowing there was no other choice.
